Wow!

It was so nice to meet all of you last night! Spirited conversation, indeed.

The next meeting will be June 24th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. July date TBA very soon.

We had lots of people drop in and out, and some people come late, and all of that is totally fine! Whenever you can make it, you are welcome to join.

We picked a theme for the summer reads, which is hot/swampy.

The main book for June is annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer. We are going to pick some secondary books as well as July‘s book here in the next week or so. I know that sounds like a lot but in talking with everyone I realized that each person prefers different platforms.

When recommending books please include any possible trigger warnings that you can think of. That will not keep a book from being chosen per se, but it will give people the opportunity to switch their book choice to a secondary option if needed.

Last night topics of conversation included podcast, games, movies, and more. Feel free to come ready to discuss or recommend those as well.

Of course, for those of y’all who just want to silent read, I’ve got you covered. I apologize for not having a section set up for that last night, but it appeared that everyone wanted to join into the conversation. Moving forward there will be some small tables to the side with signage. I apologize for arriving a little later than expected and not having that set up already.

I spoke with Ian from Rec Room Books and he will have copies of our choices available for purchase although supplies will be limited.

About halfway through the meeting I realized I should’ve been taking notes but I’m organizing what I have. I’ll share more over the weekend. Look for it here and on Insta, Discord, etc.

Lastly, if you’d like to take on the role of ‘host’ for a specific book or month, let me know. I’ll still handle the media but you can lead the event and how all that unfolds.
